CS188.1x: Artificial Intelligence
BerkeleyX
Dear Fernando Noveno,
Week 3 of CS188x:
Artificial Intelligence is now live! To access the course materials,
visit:
Now that you have
learned how to formulate and solve search problems in their general form, we
will be turning our attention to constraint satisfaction problems (CSPs), which
are an important class of search problems with a wide range of real-world
applications. CSPs can model problems in many domains, including scheduling,
space allocation, hardware configuration, transportation scheduling, factory
scheduling, circuit layout, fault diagnosis, and more. While CSPs can in
principle be solved with the general search methods you already know, CSPs have
special structure that you will learn how to exploit in order to solve them much
more efficiently. CSPs will also form our first look at a declarative
representation language for modeling domain structure.
This week’s timeline
is as follows:
    Lectures 4 and
5: Live now
    Homework 2: Live
now (due Sunday, 10/14)
    Project 1:
Released last week (due Sunday, 10/14)
Secondary video
processing, which includes captioning, will release later in the
week.
This past week has
seen many great student contributions to the discussion forums. We want to give
a huge round of applause to all contributors -- in a class like this one, your
helpful community spirit keeps everything going! We’d also like to highlight
some of our most active contributors: ichaleynbin, PoorCoco, rdh, BayAreaRon,
and kevinsallee. To point out some of the many useful contributions:
ITguilherme started a great thread with hints for the A*-CSCS question, Alyxi
posted some very useful code to help test and debug your Project 1 code, and
ichaleynbin topped the charts for individual questions answered.
As you work through the homeworks and
projects, we encourage you to continue taking advantage of the forums. They are
there to help connect with the staff and with your classmates, so don't be shy
about getting involved (though, as always, please do avoid spoilers in your
posts until after due dates have passed).
May all your
constraints be satisfied,
Dan, Pieter, and the
